I firmly believe public education can change the trajectory of kid's lives in a positive way. This belief is the "rocket fuel" that ignites my passion for my career in public education. While I was working on my undergraduate degree, I worked at a behavior modification group home for youth. Early in my marriage, I worked with adjudicated youth as a treatment foster care provider. While working with these kids and their families, I saw first hand the generational carnage that families grappled with because of inequities, broken systems and lack of supports. I began see that for many of theses kids, had inequities been addressed and interventions put in place, when they were younger, the trajectory of kid's life could have truly been changed. This is why. I chose to become an educator because I want to make a difference, particularly in the lives of marginalized youth.
I have had the honor and privilege of being a classroom teacher for 18 years! I love being a teacher, so WHY the change? It goes back "my why", I want to make a difference on a broader scale. Building leadership is an integral component to student's and teacher's success. I want to be a support to other teachers in their work in the classroom. I want to work with teachers, support staff and students to cultivate a climate of caring and kindness in a building. As someone that has been an effective teacher for 18 years, I know the foundation to creating a healthy learning environment is to create a climate of safety, caring and kindness. My "why" is what is compelling me to become an administrator. This role will help me to further be able to make a positive impact on a broader scale. I chose to become an administrator because I want to serve and support a building team as they make a difference!
